On December 8, we devoured a delicious chicken-fried steak at Blake’s Cafe, in McQueeney. We’ve done it before, but on this particular afternoon, we were celebrating Blake’s inclusion in the December 2008 issue of Texas Monthly, which featured the 40 best small-town cafes in the state. The owners, Rick and Ginger Galvan, were on hand to celebrate as well as the previous owners, Tim and Sheri Blake (the Galvan’s took over in October). Seguin mayor Betty Ann Matthies showed up to give her congratulations, and about thirty or so hungry folks were there enjoying a good old-fashioned meal. A piece of satiny chocolate pie proved to be the perfect ending to our delightful lunch.
